May 2002
We are excited to announce that Ozarka will be hosting two
job fairs next month, June 10th (Monday) at Jarvis Christian College and June
12th (Wednesday) at the Carroll Green Civic Center from 10am-6pm. All interested
applicants must have a high school degree (or equivalent) and two years of work
experience.
Applications will be available beginning June 3rd only at East Texas Workforce
Commission Centers (in Quitman, Gilmer, Athens, Longview, Tyler and surrounding
counties) and also at the Winnsboro Chamber of Commerce. All applications must
be turned in at the June 10th and 12th job fairs or at the East Texas Workforce
Centers/Winnsboro Chamber locations. For your safety due to the construction
traffic, please do not go to the plant site. We will not be distributing or
accepting applications at our temporary plant offices on FM2869 in Hawkins/Holly
Lake Ranch. If you have any questions about the applications, please call the
East Texas Workforce Centers.
Construction continues on the Wood County Bottling Facility. This month the
steel infrastructure will be delivered, the stem wall completed and the batch
plant will be located on site. We are beginning construction of the spring water
collection facilities and we continue to install monitoring points for the
long-term monitoring program that will be used while collecting spring water.
The “Every Drop Counts” Scholarship Fund is now available to students in Texas
for the 2002-2003 school year. Wood County students are eligible for two $2500
scholarships and two $10,000 scholarships. The two $10,000 statewide
scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors pursuing a college
degree in the Earth Sciences (geology, hydrogeology, environmental science,
forestry, etc.). In Wood County there will also be a $2500 scholarship for
Hawkins ISD graduating seniors and a $2500 scholarship for Harmony ISD
graduating seniors.
Additionally, September 27th is our Project W.E.T. “Make A Splash” Festival Day
and Ozarka would like to hold a festival in Wood County for fall 2002. The
festival is designed for upper elementary students – 4th, 5th, & 6th graders –
and consists of structured learning stations and exhibits where students
actively engage in hands-on water activities and investigations. Station topics
can include the hydrologic cycle, ground water, spring water, water quality,
wetlands, water management, water conservation, soils, living history and much
more. Ozarka has designated a Project W.E.T. (Water Education for Teachers) Fund
for Wood County and this program is a Texas Education Agency-accredited
curriculum.
Thank you for your interest! As we have been in the past, we remain absolutely
dedicated to maintaining open and earnest communications with the community and
are always available for your questions and concerns. If you have further
questions, please call our Ozarka hotline at: 888-409-4424.
