Ozarka Spring Water Awards $5000 in
Scholarship Money to Wood County Students

Harmony and Hawkins High School seniors win local earth science scholarship awards

Hawkins, TX – Ozarka Natural Spring Water awarded two $2500 scholarships to Hawkins and Harmony High School seniors who are pursuing careers in the field of science.  Ozarka-Wood County Plant Manager Bill King will be presenting the students with their scholarship awards at the Hawkins and Harmony High School Awards Ceremonies.

As part of their educational commitment to Texas, Ozarka created an “Every Drop Counts” Earth Science Scholarship Fund in 2002.  Statewide, Ozarka awards two annual $10,000 scholarships to two qualified Texas students who wish to major in hydrogeology, or any other Environmental/Earth Science that focuses on water conservation and preservation, at a four-year college or university.  Four additional $2500 scholarships are awarded to students in East Texas independent school districts where Ozarka has operations.

Since 2002, $30,000 in scholarship money has been distributed to graduating high school seniors in Wood County.  This year, each senior scholarship recipient demonstrated an aptitude for earth/environmental sciences and plans to pursue a career in the field.  Scholarships are available annually to these local ISD’s in Ozarka’s East Texas spring communities.  In Wood County, Sharessa Godfrey, of Harmony High School, will be pursuing her environmental science degree at Texas A&M University and Hawkins High School scholarship winner Lauren Tadlock plans to pursue a degree in biological sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler.

“As a company, we strongly support environmental education in Texas,” said Ozarka Natural Resource Manager and hydrogeologist David Feckley.  “Through our annual scholarship programs and support for educational initiatives we hope we’re creating new learning experiences for Texas students who share our dedication to preserving the environment.  We are very pleased to help these students with their college educations.”

Ozarka’s two statewide $10,000 scholarship winners were announced on May 24th: Emily Williams of Nacogdoches and Kevin Mulkern of Houston both won the $10,000 statewide scholarship awards and will be pursuing degrees in geology and hydrogeology.

Students interested in pursuing next year’s “Every Drop Counts” Scholarship Fund are encouraged to contact their high school counselor or college advisor regarding scholarship rules and guidelines.  The new 2008 $10,000 scholarship application documents will be posted on www.ozarkawater.com in June.
